 TELE-REHABILITATION

Active Stride Therapy provides Tele-rehabilitation Physiotherapy services. Other names for this service include virtual care, virtual physiotherapy, and tele-health Physiotherapy.  

Tele-rehabilitation is rehabilitation services provided at a distance, either by online technologies like video conferencing, telephone, cellphone, tablet or computer.  We now provide physiotherapy services from a distance, virtually!

 

WHAT CAN I EXPECT IF PHYSIOTHERAPY IS DELIVERED VIRTUALLY?

Physiotherapy services provided virtually will offer professional care and judgement. Just like an in-clinic office visit, you can expect to receive high quality, evidenced based care. Physiotherapists must comply with all the standards of practice of the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario.

Practically, hands-on treatment techniques are not available virtually, but many other interventions can be applied by the Physiotherapist to optimize your treatment. These include

• high level custom exercise prescription with individual sheets sent to your email

• support for patient education eg. use of ice, heat, over the counter analgesics, good posture for

daily activities, use of equipment at home,

• self mobilization techniques -how to, and intensity level

• coaching and reassurance to help with understanding your condition

Virtual physiotherapy visits provide an option for assessments and treatments when it is the choice of the patient to access care that way or when you can’t access in-person services for reasons like during a pandemic where physical distancing measures are in place.

 

ARE THERE RISKS TO RECEIVING TELE-REHABILITATION CARE?

Prior to your Physiotherapy assessment, your Physiotherapist will ensure that you are informed of any risks and consent to care.  We will use our secure software platform to ensure your privacy and security of your personal information.

We may ask that your visit is provided in the presence of another person and we will review the location that you will be in for the virtual session for any safety issues.

 

DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR TELE-REHABILITATON SERVICES?

Tele-rehabilitation services are being covered by a number of insurance benefit plans. If you are not sure if your insurance provider will cover tele-rehabilitation, then you should contact them in advance of booking an appointment. In addition, in Ontario the Workers Safety and Insurance Bureau (WSIB) covers virtual visits with your physiotherapist.  For any other fee types please contact us.
